The construction of an extension to the listed building of the old Rocador Factory in Esplugues de Llobregat was proposed for the installation of a Medical Laboratory.
The proposal consists of the interior adaptation of an existing space of the main building, the construction of a new body (buried) placed outside the vertical projection of the existing building and the vertical communication between them.
The functional programme is developed on two floors, with a part of the programme located on each floor according to the needs of use. The semi-basement floor has the quality control laboratory and the library, as well as the existing personnel services, which are modified to adapt them to the new needs. The basement floor has a technical area for the installations, the production chamber and the mechanical equipment area for this, as well as the laboratory area.
Vertical communication between floors is made through a newly built staircase and a small service elevator.
